Project & Activity

Iraq

IVY carries out education and winterization support for Syrian refugees and Iraqi IDPs (internally displaced persons) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq since September 2013.

We used to focus on delivering assistance to refugees living outside of camps.

Since 2016, we also provide aid to IDPs living in camps as response to the Mosul crisis. We are providing school rehabilitation, life skill & psychosocial activities, vocational trainings with the collaboration of local NGOs.

Syria

IVY has started humanitarian assistance activities inside Syria since 2020. In 2020 we provided emergency food supply support with support of local NGO. Since 2021 we have been implementing educational assistance project such as school rehabilitation, school stationaries kit distribution, school meal, life skill & psychosocial support activities, supplement school management, and so on.

Bangladesh & Myanmar

IVY has started supporting Myanmar displaced people (Rohingya refugees) in Cox’s Bazar district, Bangladesh since September 2018.

We opened an office in Bangladesh and are working with Mukti, a local NGO, to increase the number of wells that do not dry up during the dry season, toilets with septic tanks, and provide hygiene classes to reduce the number of diarrhea cases.

IVY Youth

IVY Youth is a group of young individuals that carry out activities under the parent organization, IVY with the aim of energizing international activities in Tohoku and expanding the experiences of youth. Currently, members consist of university students from various places in Tohoku.

The group carries out educational support for elementary school children in Cambodia, workshops on education for international understanding at jr. high schools and high schools in Tohoku, and environmental education camps for the upper grades of elementary school.

Global Education & Environmental Education

There are many individuals in Yamagata Prefecture who provide technical assistance in developing nations and work as volunteers to improve local lifestyles, as well as individuals who conduct various activities in the local community from a global perspective.

The 21st century is an era that requires people of the world to join hands to tackle different global issues. To accomplish this, it is desirable for the number of “global citizens capable of acting locally with a worldly perspective” noted above to increase.

We offer a variety of programs to raise global citizens in our community through seminars for residents and school education centering on the “integrated study period” that began in 2002.

Foreign Residents Support

Yamagata Prefecture is known throughout Japan as an area with a high percentage of international marriages.

As a result, there are foreigners in families and communities, and friends in classrooms who were raised in different cultures. When they first come to Japan that may result in inconsistencies with their surroundings. However, from a different point of view, they may have doubts about the things that the community and society accept as natural, and this may provide a chance to change towards a better direction.

The IVY Foreigner Support Section is involved in activities to support the foreigners concerned, as well as their families and communities.
It is because it is the present time that having the “richness of a multicultural society” that has a place for whatever different culture is our common property.
IVY intends to continue to make efforts to look for solutions and realize a better social system.
